In "A Divided Duty," the twentieth installment of Seanan McGuire's October Daye series, Toby Daye is adjusting to life with her newborn daughter, striving to balance motherhood with her responsibilities in the perilous realm of Faerie. Her household, including May and Raysel—the estranged daughter of Toby's liege lord—supports her during this transition. As Raysel's term of service concludes, her mother, Luna Torquill, demands her return. Toby, having provided Raysel with a safe haven and access to a therapist specializing in fae issues, faces Luna's refusal to accept no for an answer. In a desperate move, Luna abducts Raysel to Blind Michael's lands, unaware of the dark secrets lurking there. Toby must act swiftly to rescue Raysel before it's too late. The novel delves into themes of family, duty, and the lengths one will go to protect loved ones.
