Book Details

Ryland Grace, a junior high school science teacher, awakens alone aboard the interstellar spacecraft Hail Mary, with no memory of his identity or mission. He discovers that Earth is facing an existential threat from Astrophage, a mysterious organism draining the sun's energy, leading to a potential global extinction within decades. Grace recalls being recruited by Eva Stratt, head of an international task force, to embark on a one-way mission to the Tau Ceti system, where the sun remains unaffected by Astrophage, to find a solution. Upon arrival, he encounters an alien species from the planet Erid, whom he names Rocky. Despite vast biological differences, the two form a cooperative bond to uncover the cause of Astrophage's impact and develop a means to save their respective worlds. Their journey involves scientific discovery, survival challenges, and the forging of an unlikely interstellar friendship.
