The Disappearers
Description
In 1988, eight men in Kingston, Jamaica, come together to rehearse a play, each with their own reasons for participating. They are united by a shared truth: they are all gay, or "batty men" in local vernacular, and must navigate the dangers associated with their identities. Their lives are shattered when a mob attacks them, resulting in the death of one member. As the survivors recover physically, they also confront the emotional scars left by the violence, grappling with the hatred and rage the incident reveals. Some seek to move on, while others pursue vengeance, leading to a complex exploration of queer life in Jamaica during this tumultuous period.
