Marvel Masterworks - Howard The Duck Vol 1
Description
This definitive collection gathers Howard the Duck (1976) #1–14, Marvel Treasury Edition (1974) #12, material from Fear (1970) #19, Man-Thing (1974) #1, Giant-Size Man-Thing (1974) #4–5, and FOOM (1973) #15, bringing together the complete early adventures of one of Marvel’s most unconventional heroes.
Celebrating a milestone moment as the 300th Marvel Masterworks volume, this edition spotlights the character who waddled his way into comics history. Writer Steve Gerber—alongside artists Val Mayerik, Frank Brunner, and Gene Colan—created a sharp, satirical masterpiece centered on a cynical, wisecracking duck trapped in a world he never made. Howard makes his unforgettable debut as a true “fowl out of water,” teaming up with the eerie Man-Thing to defend Cleveland from the Man-Frog, Hellcow, and other bizarre threats.
The absurdity only escalates as Howard and his human companion, Beverly Switzler, confront menaces ranging from the Space Turnip and the Beaver to the perils of public transportation—and even the American political system, when Howard runs for president. Fully restored in Marvel Masterworks quality, this volume delivers humor, social satire, and pure comic-book creativity at its most iconoclastic.
